Here is a great, short animated film explaining the neuro-biology behind what happens to our brains when we take MDMA (the active ingredient in Ecstasy). The brain responds in a similar way to other drugs, such as cocaine and amphetamines (speed).
I will be speaking to WLRFM about the increase in online gambling at around 11:15 this morning. This is in relation to the announcement of Paddy Power Bookmaker’s half-year results which showed a huge increase in profit as well as an increase betting via online and mobile devices.
The increase in online betting is worrying as, unlike the traditional bookie-shop, the internet is open 24/7. With the advent of smartphones and other mobile devices, it has never been easier to place a bet – any time, anywhere.
Some commentators have also voiced concern that more women may become involved in betting as they can gamble secretly and do not have to face the intimidation of entering the predominantly ‘male domain’ of the bookie-shop.
